Letters, No. 3
Dearest one,
As we go through a difficult time in our lives, I, for one, am eternally grateful that I get to face it with you by my side. I am still not used to sharing my troubled thoughts with someone so vulnerably, but you have made it so much easier to do so. I love that you make me feel safe, and heard, even when I can be quite hostile to my self. I love the way you look at me when I speak. I love that you feel the need to comfort me and care for me when I'm weak. You never fail to give me strength when I'm burdened, my refuge.
It's only fair that I do the same for you, and I promise you I do. I think of you always, and I'd hate to see you cry. There may come a day when you feel crushed by the burden of modern life, and your bright spirit will fade before a growing emptiness. When that happens, my dear, I hope that I may be the place you call home.
E.J.
How beautiful you are, my darling!
Oh, how beautiful!
Your eyes are doves.
Like a lily among thorns
is my darling among the young women.
